- Salcombe CE Primary School
The schools work in closely in collaboration, and share staff expertise and resources to ensure the highest quality teaching and learning for the pupils in the schools.
Throughout the year, children in each school have opportunities to work with pupils across the hub in a range of exciting and enriching events and activities.
Children in Year 4 enjoyed taking part in a spelling competition, hosted at Newton Ferrers School. Their skills were tested with a series of fun and challenging spelling tasks. Thank you to all children who represented the school - there were some very tricky words to spell, but we know how much you enjoyed the challenge - congratulations on your achievements.
Year 6 pupils from all of the South-hub schools enjoyed taking part in a writing day, led by First Federation Trust SLE- Catherine Townsend. The children worked together to plan and then write myths and legends, using the locality of Dartmoor for inspiration. The writers from Blackpool came away full of inspiration and felt excited to apply their new Greater Depth writing skills back in their own classrooms. Mrs Townsend commented on how focused and committed you were to improve your writing - well done to the group that attended the workshop.
Two teams of Year 3 pupils enjoyed taking part in a South Hub Maths Challenge, organised by Mr Brown, HOTL at Newton Ferrers Primary School. All 5 schools from across the South Hub within the Trust, attended the event, and there was lots of head-scratching during the problem solving challenges of the competition. The children had to draw on a range of mathematical topics and worked collaboratively to reach their answers. Many congratulations to the 2 teams that represented Blackpool that day as they came 1st and 2nd overall.
Reading Challenge Day
Year 6 pupils from the South Hub schools in the First Federation Trust, attended a Reading Day at Blackpool School.
The day was designed to stretch and challenge their reading comprehension and language and vocabulary skills, and they worked very hard to develop these skills through fun, collaborative activities. Thank you to Mrs King. Well done to all of the children involved - you certainly learnt many new skills during the day.
