About Us

Blackpool Church of England Primary School is situated on the very edge of Dartmoor National Park.  It is surrounded by some of the most beautiful countryside in Britain.  It is a mixed primary school for children between the ages of 5 and 11 years.  ImageIt was the first school in Devon to enter into a hard federation with another local school; since September 2006 we have been linked to Chudleigh Knighton C of E Primary School.  This successful leadership model now encompasses three more schools; Salcombe Church of England Primary SchoolLady Seawards Primary School and Newton Ferrers Church of England VC Primary School.  Salcombe Church of England Primary School and Lady Seawards joined the Federation in 2009, and the latest school to join us in 2010 was Newton Ferrers C of E Primary School.   One combined set of leaders and governors guide all schools.

At Blackpool School, there are two Foundation Stage classes, three KS1 classes and six KS2 classes.  The school was first opened in 1879 and this original building forms part of the much-enlarged main school.  A major upgrading, costing nearly £1,000,000 took place in 1992 and we added three more classrooms.  Resources area, toilets, cloakrooms and showers were added in 2003.  We also have created a second hall that can be used for many aspects of the Primary Curriculum and by the wider community.  There is a fully networked state of the art computer suite and three unit based satellite computer areas.  We also have two large playgrounds, a school field and a woodland conservation area.  Blackpool School is a modern school with high quality premises and equipment.  It marries the best aspects of a large Primary with an idyllic rural setting.

World War 2 Day, November 11 2011

world war 2 day Nov 11 part 2.jpg

On 3rd November 2011 pupils at Blackpool C of E Primary School took part in World War II day where they experienced a taste of what life was like at that time. As part of the day the children made toys, drew pictures of tanks and planes, baked biscuits and were taught finger knitting.

Two pupils’ relatives kindly gave their time to talk to the children about life during the conflict; one of whom was an evacuee and the other having served in the Royal Navy.

Both children and staff had an enjoyable and thought provoking day!

Unit 2 Rock Climbing and Water Zorbing

Children from Unit 2 were invited to participate in an adventurous day of water zorbing and climbing with CRS Adventures at River Dart Country Park. The children will be using their experiences to inspire their creative writing back in the classroom.
