World Book Day 2023

Our whole school community celebrated World Book Day on Wednesday 8th March 2023 with pupils coming to school dressed as a character from their choice of book. We made sure all of our children had the opportunity to be immersed in a love of books through inviting the local author Rob Holmes in for the day. Each class visited Rob to hear about his inspiration for the books ‘Master Owl meets Miss Bunny’ and ‘The Mindful adventures of Mr Owl’. The children then spent some time asking Rob questions about his book characters, plots and what he uses as inspiration for writing.

During the day, our children brought in photos of themselves reading in unusual places which they shared with their peers in class. It was fantastic to see our children reading in places such as on tractors, in gardens, inside a fridge and even when flying on a broomstick dressed as a Harry Potter!!

As well as taking part in a book quiz and having a special World Book Day assembly, we put our artistic and creative skills to use by picking a book and creating a scene inside of a shoebox. We had children creating scenes from books such as Charlotte’s Web, Harry Potter, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Roman information texts and many, many more.

We would like to say a special thank you to our families for their efforts in supporting the day, and also a big thank you for you to Friends of Blackpool School (FABS), who are our school PTA, for organising a pre-loved book sale on the day for our children and families.

We had a brilliant day, and we are already looking forward to next year’s celebration.

World Book Day 2022

We celebrated this special day with children and adults dressing up as their favourite booked inspired characters. During the day, all children participated in a range of activities to inspire a life long love of reading. We were very fortunate to welcome Sarah Smith (The Dartmoor Artist) to visit us. Sarah shared with the children her fantastic artwork and read part of her very own book titled Upon a Billowy Breeze ‘Hope’. The book is a tale that follows the animals, the farm and the family that reside within a little farmstead on the middle of Dartmoor.
