Unit 1 Parent Meeting Minutes

On Monday 11th June we were very lucky to have Claire Howard-Manser visiting us to tell us all about life under the sea! Claire used to work as a Marine Biologist and she inspired us with all her knowledge about the discoveries under the sea! We learnt so much and now we can't wait to visit the beach next week to see what we can find!

Tuesday 30th April - The Year 2 children had a fire safety talk today. They learnt all about how to stay safe if there was a fire and the things that they could do to prevent fires. The fire service do an amazing job looking after us and keeping us safe.

Unit 1 had the most amazing story time with Author, Clare Helen Welsh. She shared her new book "How Rude!" It was a fantastic story and the children loved being a part of the storytelling experience. The children followed up the story time by making their own duck puppet from the story and we used them to discuss good manners in our circle time. Thank you Clare!

The Year 1 Dance Festival was held at Blackpool again this year and was a huge success. The Year 1 children of Blackpool performed brilliantly , showcasing their Caveman dance. All the year 1 children worked together to perform their experience as a caveman. They were also superb hosts towards the other local schools that joined us.

To develop our knowledge about the Stone Age this term, Unit 1 went to Kents Cavern. Kents Cavern is one of the most important Stone Age sites in Europe and one of Britain's best showcaves! We visited a time when the cave was home to ancient humans, sheltering from extreme weather, making fires, shaping tools and hunting Ice Age animals. As we walked through the extensive labyrinth of caverns, we were surrounded by 400 million year old rocks and spectacular stalagmites and stalactites. It was an amazing day, thank you very much Kents Cavern for your expert knowledge!
