On Tuesday 25th February 2020, Blackpool C of E Primary School’s Under 11 boys football team travelled up to Bath to play in the regional rounds of the National League Trust Cup. This was the second round of the competition after the team had previously won the local tournament held in Paignton in November. Having travelled up in the school minibus and with a travelling support of parents, the team arrived excited about testing themselves against the best teams from around the South West. Throughout the day, Blackpool played against teams from Eastleigh, Bath, Yeovil, Weymouth, Oxford and Hereford to decide who would make it to the final at the end of the day. In snow, hail and rain, the team continued to play their way against the conditions to win enough games to play in the final against Hereford. The final ended 1-1 with a last-minute equaliser from Blackpool. However in the resulting penalty shoot-out, Hereford won 3-2 which meant that they went through to the semi-finals held in London. Blackpool therefore ended up runners-up but held their heads high having performed incredibly well to compete with the very best primary school teams in the country. Whilst the team did not win this competition, since starting playing together at Under 8s, Blackpool have won numerous medals and trophies to show their local and regional success. Well done boys for being the second best team in the whole of the South West!
