On Thursday 17th May, the Foundation Stage children went to South Dartmoor to take part in the Multiskills Festival. We took part in lots of games including rounders, handball and parachute games. There were lots of different primary schools at the event and Blackpool were amazing, showing great skill and super team spirit!

We would like to say a huge thank you to Mrs Holden! She very kindly came into school to tell us all about her job. Mrs Holden is a dental nurse and she told us all about the importance of looking after our teeth. We talked about how to brush our teeth correctly and then we had a go at brushing away the sugar bugs!

On Friday 11th May, Foundation Stage went to the Zoo. We had a great day! At the zoo we found out lots of facts about the animals and gained lots of ideas about how we would build our very own small world zoo! Please have a look at our amazing day!

On Friday 8th December, Foundation Stage made their way to Occombe Farm! We travelled to the farm by coach and when we arrived we were looking forward to all the different Christmas activities on offer. We made some Christmas decorations, completed a reindeer hunt around the farm, listened to a Christmas story and made some gingerbread biscuits! We all had a brilliant time and learnt so much!

On Monday 4th December, we had a Christmas Craft morning in Foundation with our families. We made lots of different Christmas decorations and had lots of fun!

It has been a very busy and exciting first half term at Blackpool. We have learnt lots of new things and made some very special friends.

Phonic sounds and actions.

On Thursday 14th September we had an amazing morning learning some new dancing. We took part in a Folk Dance session with a duo of Dartmoor Step dancers. We learnt how to Step Dance and some of the reasons for why it is performed in a small space wearing big heavy boots.

Just a reminder that every Tuesday (weather permitting!) will be Elizabeth Class' Welly walk day and every Wednesday will be Victoria Class' welly walk. Please ensure your child has a waterproof coat and wellies in school.

On Tuesday 9th May we all went to South Dartmoor to take part in the Multi Sports Festival. We played lots of different games and tried out some new sports. We had lots of fun and learnt lots of new skills.

Well done to all the children for making fabulous Easter hats! It was very difficult to choose only one winner. Thank you to all the families for helping the children with their creations! We also enjoyed a brilliant Easter Egg Hunt through our woods where the Easter Bunny had been very busy!

Thank you to Mrs Pearson for telling us all about her very special nursing job. We enjoyed learning about what happens to the very tiny babies when they are born.

We hope you enjoyed the Mother's Day assembly. We worked really hard on our first performance and we hope these photographs remind you of some very special memories.

Spring term 2 has been another busy and exciting one in Foundation. There has been lots of fun, challenge and success along the way, take a look at what we have been up to!

To celebrate the end of our space topic, we held a space themed dressing up day with lots of fun filled space activities. Take a look at what we got up to, we may be looking a little different!

All the foundation children would like to say a huge thank you to Mr Jenkinson for coming in to visit us to tell us all about his job in the police. We had a brilliant time listening and learnt lots of new things about being in the police force. If any other parents would like to share their jobs with us, we would love to hear all about them. Thank you again Mr Jenkinson!

Christmas craft morning gave us the opportunity to create lots of Christmas decorations. We enjoyed having our adults in to help us! Thank you for coming.

We went to Occombe Farm as part of our Christmas celebrations. We made and decorated gingerbread, made reindeer hats and had an exciting walk around the farm to see all the animals. We had lots of fun!

Our Outside Learning Environment.

We would love to share our outside environment with you this term! We have had lots of fun in our builder’s yard area; we played builders and learnt many new skills. We have enjoyed making mud pies in our mud kitchen, (sorry if I come home a little dirty some days!) and we have enjoyed making lots of different types of den. We love our tractor tyre sand pit because we can get in it! We have also just started developing our new garden area; we have introduced a small pond, potting area, an insect hotel and a hedgehog house. We are working hard to grow lots of different plants and vegetables this year.

Autumn Term Welly Walk Adventures!

This term we have been enjoying weekly welly walks in our local wood. It is the time in the week that we all get excited about as we wonder what we may find! We went in search of the best materials we could find to make a strong house for the Three Little Pigs. We searched really carefully and collected lots of sticks and stones but what we didn’t expect to find was the big bad WOLF!
We also wanted to build a hedgehog house in our new garden area so we collected lots of different leaves to keep the hedgehogs safe and warm. Look out for our hedgehog house that we built in our new garden area in the photos.
We used our maths skills when we went in search of The Gruffalo characters. They were hidden around the woods and we had to find them all! At the end of our walk we ordered the numbers that were on the characters to see if any were still missing. We managed to find them all!
We loved the story about The Stickman and loved building the Stickman a new tree house in the woods. Some of us thought hard about making it strong and waterproof and others made the Stickman a sofa and a table!
We hope you enjoy looking at the photos!

On Friday 10th June Elizabeth and Victoria Class went to Plymouth Aquarium to learn about all the different sea creatures in the world. We learnt lots of new things and we even got to meet a Mermaid!

Friday 6th May - Today we were very lucky to have a visit from Polly's dad who is a Policeman. He is a police dog trainer and we got to meet his new police dog Jack! Jack is just 10 months old and is already a very big dog! He was very excited to see us and we were very excited to meet him! We learnt all about the police uniform, the job they do to help people and why they use police dogs. Thank you very much Polly’s dad!

The children have enjoyed a brilliant trip to the local garden centre. They learnt about lots of different plants and how to care for them. They also had a shopping list of items they had to buy to use in our outside area. We will be growing plants very soon, watch this space! Other people at the garden centre were very complimentary about the children's excellent behaviour, well done Foundation Stage!

Foundation Stage enjoying World Book Day 2016

This term we have been learning about the different jobs that people do. Mr Limb told us all about delivering fruit and vegetables and we enjoyed tasting the oranges. Mrs Howard-Manser used to be a Marine Biologist investigating sea life and now she is a nurse helping people get better. We loved trying on the uniform and using the equipment for those jobs!
